Established in 1968, Adventures Preschool is the only cooperative preschool in Ames. In this unique format, teachers plan curriculum and lead activities, and parents assist in the classroom. Two teachers and two parents participate each day, keeping the adult/child ratio approximately 1:5.
Ames Christian School (ACS) is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). The elementary school offers an academic program including Art, Music, Computer Lab Instruction, and Physical Education for grade EK-6. The Early Childhood Program offers an excellent three and four year old Preschool Program with or without Childcare. All ACS teachers are certified by the State of Iowa.

Our Parent Services Specialist can assist by creating a customized list of programs and provide information about what quality child care and the different types of child care. Services are free.

You are eligible if you have no other options for support and are a Story or Boone County family with children ages 0 to 12. LSI provides up to 72 hours of crisis child care in Story and Boone Counties. This program is for any family facing a crisis, such as medical emergency, homelessness or critical stress, and who has no other available child care options or support system. LSI will help transport your child to a licensed child care provider so you can focus on resolving your family emergency.

Formative Years opened in the fall of 1986. Our goal is to provide a professional early childhood education program for 2 ' 5 year-olds, as well as an after-school and all-day summer program for kindergarten through 6th graders. Our program emphasizes the growth of the child in all areas of development and is enhanced by our professional and caring staff.
Head Start children must be age 3 or 4 by Sept. 15th (at the time class starts). Families must meet income guidelines and children must be current on immunizations. Proof of age is required (birth certificate or Title 19 card). Free childcare and breakfast is provided on late start Mondays during the school year by community volunteers at the United Methodist Church. The church is open at 7:00 a.m., breakfast is available from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. and volunteers escort children to Central Elementary School at 9:00 a.m. Middle school age children can catch the bus there to the middle school. Crafts, games and activities are provided at the church. If interested in volunteering or you would like your child to participate, call. Childcare is free for Nevada school students age 4 and up on late-start Monday's during the school year.
Curriculum at LilyPad includes the child-initiated and teacher-directed activities and experiences offered to young children that support and enrich their development physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. Prairie Flower Children's Center is a Waldorf preschool for children ages 3-5 that focuses on educating the whole child--mind, body, and spirit.
St. Paul Lutheran Preschool offers three classes during the morning hours. Our center accepts children on a first come, first serve basis, giving priority to children who are members of the St. Paul congregation. During the month of February applications from members of St. Paul Lutheran Church and current preschool families are accepted. During the month of March all other applications are accepted. We continue to accept applications after March.
Non-profit childcare center whose purpose is to provide a well-balanced child care program, particularly for those families with student and/or working parents.
